European Digital Healthtech Conference
EU Commission representative Anne Calteux will introduce the new common data space for health at the European Digital Healthtech Conference.
The European Health Data Space (EHDS) is a major game changer for delivering healthcare across the EU. The European Digital Healthtech Conference, taking place in Luxembourg on 25-26 March 2025 , will focus on its implementation and impact. Anne Calteux, Head of the Representation of the EU Commission to Luxembourg, will deliver the opening address at the event and provide an overview of this groundbreaking initiative.
Anne Calteux: There are several reasons why the European Health Data Space matters to the European Commission. First of all, it is part of the EU data strategy and as such contributes to creating a single market for data. We need this single market to enhance Europe’s global competitiveness and data sovereignty, i.e. the ability to govern and control our own data. Given the current geopolitical context, this is absolutely crucial.

Secondly, the European Health Data Space will significantly contribute to improving patients' lives. In a nutshell, it will enable medical researchers to access and pool data from various sources to accelerate the discovery of groundbreaking treatments. It will also help medical professionals to access a patient’s medical history – with the patient’s consent of course – to provide better treatments.
I will emphasise the importance of data-driven solutions, such as AI, big data analytics and personalised medicine, and how they can transform healthcare delivery. I will also put forward how the EU plans to stay ahead in the digital race globally, positioning itself as a leader in both innovation and patient-centred care.
Health and technology affect us all, regardless of background, profession, or nationality. There will be something in this conference for all of us!
