The European Commission has announced the results of the calls for proposals launched in 2023 under the European Defence Fund. Ten Luxembourg entities are among the 54 joint European research and development projects selected.
The total allocation for this call for proposals by the European Defence Fund (EDF) for 54 new collaborative R&D projects is €1.03 billion. This brings the dedicated budget to over €3 billion since the start of the EDF in May 2021.

"We are very pleased to see the positive evolution in the number of Luxembourg projects selected in the European Defence Fund calls for proposals," states Alexander Link, Defence Technology and Innovation Coordinator at Luxinnovation. There were only 4 out of 61 projects in 2021 and 5 out of 41 projects in 2022. This year, 13 entities submitted their applications in 16 project proposals. With 10 entities selected, Luxembourg has the 5th best success rate in the European Union. This demonstrates the quality of the players in the Luxembourg defence ecosystem."
Since the launch of the European Defence Fund in 2021, 14 Luxembourgish companies and research organisations (mainly in the Space and Cyber domains, but also Materials) have been selected for funding:
The call for proposals for 2024 was launched and presented at the beginning of the month during the Luxembourg European Defence Fund Info Day. The deadline for submitting applications is set for 5 November 2024.
However, potential applicants must submit a one-page summary detailing their project to the Luxembourg Directorate of Defence by 1 July 2024.
During the 2024 edition of the global defence and security exhibition Eurosatory (from June 17 to 21, 2024), the Luxembourg national pavilion will also provide the opportunity to engage with key actors in the defence ecosystem.
